Drinking too little is dangerous
If you don’t drink enough, your body dries out. The first symptoms of dehydration are thirst, dry skin and dry mucous membranes (e.g. in the mouth) and dark yellow urine. With advanced dehydration, the eyes sink in and heart palpitations can occur. Circulatory problems and disturbances of consciousness up to and including coma are possible consequences. Drinking too little can therefore lead to serious health problems.

What and how much to drink?
How much fluid a body needs to stay healthy varies from person to person. The German Society for Nutrition recommends about 1.5 liters of drinks – the liquid contained in solid food does not count here.
The healthiest drinks are water and unsweetened herbal and fruit teas. Incidentally, coffee can also be included in the fluid balance. Up to 4 cups a day are considered safe for healthy people who tolerate the caffeine well.
Important: You should avoid ice-cold water, especially when it is hot. Lukewarm drinks are better. They also help against heavy sweating .
4 tips for everyone who doesn’t drink enough
Tip 1: Drink water in the morning. Make it a habit to make up for the loss of fluids you lose during the night with a large glass of water, preferably right after you get up.
Tip 2: Bring a water bottle with you. A drink that is always handy in your bag or at work reminds you to drink more water.
Tip 3: Use modern technology. Let drinking apps remind you to drink regularly. You can often use it to document your fluid intake.
Tip 4: Find your favorite water. Have you ever noticed how different mineral water can taste? Try the offer and find your favourite.
It tastes best that way
Always just water? Boring! Bring flavor into the glass – but in a healthy way. Flavor your water with berries or freshly cut fruit. Lemons, limes and grapefruits are well suited, but also apples and melons. Herbs such as mint, thyme or sage or even vegetables such as cucumber add variety to your everyday drinking. Your water gets an exotic note with spices such as cinnamon, vanilla or ginger.
Well then: Let the water flow!
