Everyone can help to slow down the spread of the corona virus and thus flatten the infection curve. This is also urgently needed, because if the number of new infections increases too quickly, the healthcare system could be overwhelmed.
What is the infection curve?
The infection curve shows how the spread of a virus develops in a certain area. The line of the curve symbolizes the number of new infections. It rises slowly at first and then suddenly goes up steeply. The fewer physical contacts there are, the flatter the curve as a whole. We are currently on the rising side of the curve in Germany.
A curfew, i.e. a state-imposed “house arrest”, is one way of flattening the curve. Another possibility is the voluntary restriction of physical contacts that are not absolutely necessary.
The good news is that we can all do our part to protect ourselves and others. This is how we reduce the spread of viruses and help to enable fast and seamless health care throughout the country.
This is how you can protect yourself and others
It is absolutely essential to protect yourself and others from potential infection – even if you have not yet shown any symptoms. In addition to domestic isolation, the protective measures that are so important now include correct and regular hand washing and correct coughing and sneezing etiquette. You can read more about this in our article Reducing the spread of the contagion.
This is how you survive the domestic isolation
So now it’s time to keep your distance. This is not so much a matter of social distancing, as is often heard, and more of physical distancing. It can still be social, e.g. B. using WhatsApp, Skype or the good old telephone – there are many ways to stay in touch with your loved ones.
If you are at home a lot during these times, you should also make sure that your daily routine is as regular as possible. Set the alarm clock in the morning and stick to fixed work and break times. It also makes sense not to consume too much news, but to consciously choose few but reputable news sources.
