We humans are social beings and as such we depend on one another. In the lockdown, however, our social behavior is put to the test. In March we already gave tips on how to deal with the isolation . Now we want to share more suggestions with you so that you can get through the year-end lockdown well.
1. Strengthen the relationship in a targeted manner
Unfortunately, the Corona crisis has already killed many a love relationship. Can you really actively do something to avoid getting on each other’s nerves or living apart during this time? The answer is yes! Openness and empathy are good qualities to strengthen any connection. On the other hand, criticism, withdrawal or a permanent defensive attitude are poison for the relationship.
The American psychologist John Gottman discovered that partnerships are particularly stable when the ratio of positive to negative interactions is at least 5:1 (= Gottman constant). A positive interaction can For example, saying “I love you” to your partner.
2. Use family time at home
Especially in the dark season, your own four walls lure you with a lot of warmth and coziness. It is therefore above all a question of perspective whether we demonize the time at home or whether we appreciate it. And let’s be honest: there are plenty of nice activities to do at home that are often neglected in hectic everyday life. It is so important to take time for simple activities such as cooking, playing or simply doing nothing.
you have children Then horizontal parenting might be something for you. In this new parenting trend, parents stay (horizontally) on the couch and entertain the kids with everything that doesn’t require getting up. you can e.g. B. watch old home videos together, flip through photo albums or play games like “What’s on my butt?”. In any case, it is quality time.
3. Take virtual meetings to a new level
Video chats via WhatsApp, Skype or Zoom are now standard. Most people also know that larger groups can meet here. But the digital world has many other great contact options in store. So e.g. For example, singing in a group is forbidden in many places – but it is easily possible in karaoke apps such as Smule.
Watch movies and series together? This is also possible in lockdown: With the Chrome add-on Teleparty you can watch Netflix with friends and chat at the same time. The mobile phone app Houseparty also offers a high fun factor. Like a real party, you can meet up with your friends in virtual rooms. Small games add to the experience.
4. Rediscover the area
Hiking makes you healthy and happy – we won’t tell you anything new. But it doesn’t always have to be the ultimate nature experience in the woods and fields. The trend sport urban walking can be indulged in practically every city. On the Internet or via travel guide apps such as B. Listening tour you will find numerous interesting walking tours through all major German cities.
Of course, you can also experience a bit of nature in the city. Great with children: With an app like e.g. B. Identify trees, shrubs and mushrooms with PlantSnap or identify birds by their songs with the BirdNET app. Dressed warmly and in a good mood, lunch also tastes good on the go (an effect that is familiar from the Christmas market).
5. Help other people
According to a study, every third German is a volunteer – no wonder, because helping other people is proven to make you happy. There are many sites on the Internet where you can find suitable initiatives depending on your wishes and possibilities. This includes e.g. B. the page gegencorana.de , which is operated by the Federal Ministry of Health.
But it’s even easier: shopping for the elderly neighbors, sewing everyday masks for friends or simply looking for a conversation, by phone, chat or the old-fashioned way by letter. Solidarity can also simply mean giving. Even a short exchange can reduce stress on both sides.
Stay healthy… and optimistic
Restrictions are a matter of attitude – it’s up to you to make the best of this difficult time. Even now there are plenty of bright spots, such as the numerous advances in the development of a vaccine against Covid-19 . Stay positive, stay (safely) connected with your loved ones and remember: your smart behavior saves lives. So it’s worth it.
