Via app to the doctor: what can telemedicine do

Health always comes first. And because our physical and mental well-being is the most important thing in life, everyone should have the opportunity to be cared for at the highest medical level in the event of illness. And telemedicine is a great addition to healthcare. But what can telemedicine actually do? And what not? We get to the bottom of these questions here.

Which diseases can be treated by video?

Basically, acute, non-life-threatening cases are often well suited for telemedicine.

In particular, diseases that can be diagnosed using the medical history and a visual examination of the patient are well suited to treatment via video. These include, for example

  • many skin diseases
  • Cough
  • rhinitis and colds
  • Fever
  • vomiting, diarrhea and constipation
  • Hay fever and other allergies
  • Herpes
  • nail fungus
  • headaches and migraines
  • u. v. m.

If further treatment by a local doctor is necessary, the doctors at Med-Healths will point this out to you.

In many cases, the video consultation can also be an excellent first point of contact for you. In a conversation with our doctors, you can not only get an initial opinion on your symptoms, but also get advice on how to proceed. So e.g. B.

  • what treatment options are available
  • whether further physical treatment by a doctor on site is necessary,
  • or whether a visit to another specialist is recommended.

“I really only need a prescription”

Many doctor’s talks begin with this sentence. Because in many cases we already know exactly what we have, but we have to see a doctor because the medication we need is e.g. B. requires a prescription.

Telemedicine is also often well suited for such cases. For example, if you need a new nasal spray during the pollen season or if you already know which painkiller is the most digestible in the event of a migraine attack, you can speak to a doctor quickly and easily and have the appropriate prescription issued if the doctor deems it medically necessary deems

It’s the same with sick leave . In some cases, while we may feel too weak for school, college, or work, we know the condition well enough to know that we can treat it through our own caregiving efforts. Then we often just need medical advice and sick leave. This can also be easily done via video consultation.

With children via app to the doctor

Anyone who has ever had a sick child at home knows: that’s it for today’s everyday routine. Because a sick child not only means that your child has to stay at home, but probably you as a parent have to do without your activities today.

Fortunately, children often have quite harmless symptoms that can be alleviated by taking care of themselves. But sometimes something more is necessary or you would like to get a medical opinion on your child’s symptoms to be on the safe side.

Especially then, telemedicine is invaluable. You and your child can speak to an experienced pediatrician easily and conveniently from anywhere with just a few clicks .

As a parent , your worries are taken away within a few minutes , your sick child can be helped quickly and you don’t have to put up with your crying child, who may even be plagued by pain or fear, for a long time driving and waiting. Here, too, the doctor treating you will draw your attention to it if necessary if further treatment by a local doctor is recommended.

The most common reasons for presentations include illnesses such as diarrhoea, coughing, fever, runny nose or skin rashes . So acute, but not life-threatening cases.

What are the limits of telemedicine?

In principle, you should always inform the rescue coordination center in life-threatening cases. The same applies to serious injuries after an accident.

Patients who are being treated by a local doctor for a chronic illness are also recommended to contact their doctor for treatment of the illness in question.

Furthermore, a doctor can of course not take blood or skin or tissue samples via video and therefore cannot carry out laboratory tests. If this is necessary for your treatment, your doctor will point this out to you during the video consultation and recommend that you visit a doctor on site.

In any case, a visit to the doctor via video consultation can primarily serve as a first orientation and help you to get to the bottom of the causes of your illness – especially if you are unsure how to proceed.
